Some information about this world, called Rutalil’na, and the people, called the Brr’desee

About Their World

The Eruseq people were part of a larger culture called the Brr’desee. How the Eruseq got their name will become clear in the next backstory post.

The Brr’desee (BURR-de-see) lived in the fertile and water-rich land known as Rutalil’na (roo-ta-LIL-na), whose borders were generally defined by the Lil’na Mountains to the north, The Great Sea to the east, the Heliasaq (hell-ee-ASS-ak) Mountains to the south, and the Forests of Flame to the west – the latter so called because it burns to the ground every decade or so.

Originally, the economy of this region was largely agrarian, with very few cities of any size. Having no concentrated centers of population, government was also barely present. Still, life was largely peaceful and comfortable for most Brr’desee, if not overly prosperous.

Writing “The Eruseq Chronicles”

Creating a world from scratch is a hell of a lot of work.

If you count “thinking” as “working,” I’ve been working on this world and these people and this trilogy for about three years.

It’s fun to go back to my notes from those first moments and see how much my earliest notion has changed. Originally, it was to be a single fantasy novel called “The Secret Sorcerer,” but it wasn’t long before even that idea pushed at and struggled against its boundaries, underwent mitosis, and became three novels.
